3M has rebranded its popular Safety Spotlight Series of free webinars and added a variety of new topics for 2018.
Now in its eighth year, the series has been renamed the Science of Safety series, bringing it in line with the science-based technology company’s European webinar series.
New topics for 2018 will include the role of personal protection equipment (PPE) and detection equipment in confined space operations; detection and monitoring; and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) systems.
These additions follow 3M’s acquisition last year of premium manufacturer Scott Safety, which has added SCBA systems, gas and flame detection instruments, and other innovative devices to the company’s extensive portfolio of personal safety equipment.
In total, the Science of Safety series will comprise 14 webinars spread throughout the year. Returning topics will include choosing the right hearing protection equipment (HPE); the effects of PPE on productivity; and respiratory fit testing, among others.
As in previous years, the series will be aimed at everyone from employers and health and safety managers to self-employed professionals and individual workers. Most of the webinars will be relevant to a broad range of industries, with some focused on specific sectors such as construction, metal forging and metal fabrication.
The interactive webinars will be led by 3M experts and, in some cases, other leading professionals from outside the company. They will all be broadcast live online, allowing participants to ask questions in real time. Participants can also earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points by taking part.
The first 3M Science of Safety webinar – titled How to Communicate Safely in Noisy Environments and Retain Situational Awareness – has now opened for online registration.
It will run from 10.00 to 11.00 on Tuesday, 23 January, 2018, led by Mohammed Saleem, senior technical specialist, West Europe at 3M Personal Safety, and Magnus Johannson, senior manager of Research and Acoustics at 3M.
